An employee of privately operated toll highway 407 ETR in Ontario was charged by York Regional Police in the theft of personal data belonging to 60,000 customers – including names, addresses and phone numbers.
The investigation of the breach began back in the midst of the last provincial election in 2018 and was linked to the resignation of a Progressive Conservative candidate who happened to also work at 407 ETR at the time.
If you’re a 407 ETR user and received unsolicited calls or texts from the PC political party – it’s reasonable to presume you are in their database as a result of this breach.
